How to increase your computer speed

August 12, 2012 | Posted in Computers, How To | By

Increasing your Computer Speed may seem like an impossible task. Did your computer hang while you were trying to open this page? If so, you probably find yourself getting frustrated on a regular basis with the speed of your computer processor. Luckily for you, there are a number of ways you can attempt to increase the speed of your personal computer on your own, regardless of your level of expertise.

The first thing everyone who owns a computer should do is run a test for spyware on their system. Spyware can be detrimental to a computer’s processing speed. Contrary to popular belief, however, most spyware can be easily removed with the help of software that allow you to scan your computer and remove any infections from it. Once you have cleared your personal computer from any spyware, you should install anti-virus software to protect your computer in the future.

A lack of free disk space can cause a computer to lag on a regular basis. Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP come with a free disk cleanup tool called Disk Cleanup, which may help you remove any unnecessary files on your hard disk. People who use the internet on a regular basis will find that over time, their hard disk space diminishes because of temporary internet files. One can also manually remove programs that are never used, since they use up valuable free space. If the drive which has Windows installed in it has sufficient space, your computer has a higher chance of running smoothly.

Besides clearing up disk space on your hard drives, you should ensure that only processes that you need are running when you are using your computer. While many opt to upgrade their Random Access Memory space, this can prove to be an expensive and unnecessary option. One can simply open up their task manager and see all the processes that are running on their computer. While it is harmful to end processes that are required by the system to run properly, many installed programs run in the background and use up physical memory when you are not even using them. You can tell your system to not start unnecessary processes on startup, which can improve speed dramatically.

Changing your computing habits can also help boost your processor’s speed. At times, when your central processing unit has been active for a long period of time, different processes begin taking up more physical memory than they would otherwise. Allowing your computer to take a break after a long day’s work can allow it to regain some of its speed. Many opt to put their computers on standby or sleep mode, but there is no replacement for a conventional shutdown to regain processing speed.

4 Ways to Maintain a Laptop Computer

November 27, 2011 | Posted in Computers | By

Maintaining a laptop computer is one major thing computer users need to know. In my experience with one or two laptop computer users around me, I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t take care to maintain their laptop computers. The durability of your laptop computer solely depends on how well you are able to maintain it while using it. If you are bad at maintaining a laptop computer, I bet any laptop computer you must have used would not last longer than a few months or at the maximum a year before you’ll be going for a new one.

Using a laptop computer for my blog has not only improved my experience with using laptop computers but has also helped me learnt how to maintain a laptop computer well. Let’s look at four ways to maintain a laptop computer in this post.

[sws_red_box box_size="615"]Always Shut Down Appropriately [/sws_red_box]

Shutting down appropriately might sound somewhat obvious and basic but not doing so reduces from the life span of a laptop computer. If you are the type that does not bother to shut your laptop computer down the normal way, I bet you’d be having a lot of issues with it.

When shutting a laptop computer down, you have to avoid doing the following things:

  • Closing the lid before it powers off fully
  • Removing the plug from the power outlet (in the case where there is no battery backup)
  • Shutting down without closing open windows/programs

If you did any of the above before or are still doing it, you have to stop doing them if you want your laptop computer to last for a longer period.

[sws_yellow_box box_size="615"]Always Handle with Care [/sws_yellow_box]

Another thing you should be careful about which leads to good laptop maintenance habit is the way you handle your laptop. You should not jerk or yank your laptop computer. You should not pull it by the wire: it could damage the charging point. You must avoid carrying your laptop computer by the monitor/screen.

When using a USB device on your laptop computer such as modem dongle, flash drives or any other USB supported devices, always make sure you eject them properly from your computer by clicking the plug-like icon on your system tray or task bar and selecting the device you want to remove.

[sws_green_box box_size="615"]Check for Viruses [/sws_green_box]

Having viruses on your laptop computer could also lead to bad laptop maintenance. You should install an antivirus program like Norton or Avast free antivirus on your computer so that viruses would not have chances to get into your laptop computer.

Regularly updating your antivirus program is also very important because there is no difference in having none and having an outdated one.

[sws_blue_box box_size="615"]Always Check for Hardware Errors [/sws_blue_box]

Another way to maintain a laptop computer is by checking for hardware errors. There are many problems having hardware errors could lead to, such as booting problems – your laptop computer taking longer time to boot, shock or your laptop computer shutting down unexpectedly.

You should make sure the wires that are connected to your laptop are in good condition and also make sure none of your laptop components is broken.

5 Worst Passwords You Can Have

November 19, 2011 | Posted in Computers, Internet | By

Internet means a collection of websites, which means collection of logins, will certainly means a collection of PASSWORDS, thus in short INTERNET = PASSWORDS. So we need a strong and safe password to protect ourselves from hackers and information stealers. To help you up, I just want to list the 5 worst passwords one can have.

[sws_blue_box box_size="615"]NUMBER SERIES [/sws_blue_box]

A Series of numeric digits is the worst password in the internet world and almost 2-5% of the new users set their password to “123456” or a similar series of numbers. So be smart and never use a series of numbers as your password.

[sws_green_box box_size="615"]ALPHABETIC SERIES [/sws_green_box]

Same like numeric series, alphabetical series as a password is also considered as one of the worst password choice. Example of alphabetical passwords are: abcdef, or any similar series.

worst password
[sws_yellow_box box_size="615"]YOUR NAME [/sws_yellow_box]

Another common mistake that anyone can make is to set his/her password to his/her name. Thus, it is quite easy for a hacker to make a guess about your password. First name, last name or both in any order are significantly prone to risk.

[sws_red_box box_size="615"]PASSWORD = USERNAME [/sws_red_box]

There are many lazy guys that use the same password as their username. This simply indicates that the user is quite lazy or has a bad memory. So never ever use your username as your password.

[sws_grey_box box_size="615"]DATE OF BIRTH [/sws_grey_box]

In many places you need to enter only 4 digits which acts as a password, similarly like in ATMs. Many user use their date of birth, like, 1990, as their passwords, as it is easy to remember, but they forget that these types of passwords are highly insecure.

4 Reasons A Laptop May Be The Best Option

November 5, 2011 | Posted in Computers | By

When starting an internet based business, there are several things one needs to put into consideration before deciding on what type of personal computer you are to use. You should actually know the true differences between the desktop computer and the laptop computer. You can only make an informed decision when you have known what makes the laptop computer different from the desktop.

When I was to fully kick off with my discount coupons for lunarpages and icontact a few months ago, I spent a while debating whether to buy a desktop computer for my office use or to buy a laptop. My final decision was based on some major reasons that surrounded the nature of my business. In this post, I shall share some reasons you may have to consider going for a laptop computer for your business.

[sws_red_box box_size="615"] You’ll Enjoy Battery Benefits [/sws_red_box]

Have you considered what may become of your computer should there be a power outage? Laptops generally have batteries that can serve as a source of power when there is no electricity to power your computer.

This is to applicable for a desktop computer which will actually go off if left without any source of power. Using a desktop computer in an environment with unstable electricity might require you purchase an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or an inverter which will cost you more money than buying a laptop.

[sws_yellow_box box_size="615"] Laptops are Mobile and allows for increased Productivity level [/sws_yellow_box]

Another benefit you stand to gain from buying a laptop for your business is portability and mobility. You can use your laptop computer anywhere at any given time. You can only use a desktop computer in a fixed position. So if you somehow managed to get your desktop computer to save power for use when there is an outage, you won’t be able to use it on the go.

If you are able to use your laptop computer while on the go, you have an increased chance of bring out more than you can when compared to when using a desktop computer. This is practical in the sense that you may feel uncomfortable working in a particular posture and may require a change in posture before you are able to perform better.

[sws_green_box box_size="615"] Advanced features [/sws_green_box]

One thing desktop computers are known for is being limited in its features. A laptop is not like this. Laptop computers are known to have virtually everything needed in a computer. You can get a laptop with webcam, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, microphone and speakers, DVD and so on.

You can’t enjoy your computer when you’ll have to start buying speakers and other components that are essential to your business separately.

[sws_blue_box box_size="615"] Better Graphics Display [/sws_blue_box]

One other reason you may consider going for a laptop computer is for the sake of better graphic display. Laptop computer screens are optimized for high quality graphic display and do not have to endanger your eyes when you spend longer hours on the computer.

Before you make your final decision on whether to go for a laptop computer or to use a desktop computer, make sure you know why you are taking that decision and the possible problems you are going to face when using it.
